Shoving in Combat

Shoving is a special bonus action in combat that allows a creature to either knock another creature prone or push it away.

Basic Rules

  • Action Type: Shoving is a special bonus melee attack.
  • Size Restrictions: A creature can shove another creature that is no more than one size larger.
  • Contest: The shove is resolved as a contest:
    • The attacker makes a Strength (Athletics) check.
    • The defender makes a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (defender's choice).
  • Outcome:
    • Success: The attacker can either knock the target prone or push it 5 feet away.
    • Failure: No effect.

Extended Shove Rules (Homebrew)

For creatures with exceptional strength:

  • For characters with superhuman strength, they can shove a creature an additional 5 feet based on their score.
    • Strength 21-25: Shove 10 feet.
    • Strength 26-30: Shove 15 feet.
    • And so on.
