Session 2 - The Road to Dul'Dumar
From Manath's Campaign Wiki
2/28/16
- Mira awoke to Edward’s morning squawk, to discover a note and bowl left behind on Nelu’s bed. The note, scrawled in a childish elvish hand and signed by a leopard’s paw, quickly described being called by a surviving member of her druid circle, being needed in The High Forest. The bowl contained Goodberries.
- Mira proceeded downstairs to be served a bowl of vegetable stew by Arrn, a red-haired woman, and the wife of the man healed by Nelu the night before. She rode into town after her husband returned to his farm in order to cook the meal as a thank-you. The smell of cooking successfully woke Vurt.
- Mira briefly checked on the stableboy, joined by Vurt, as he combed both horses.
- Mira briefly pet the tavern cat, Slate, before Arrn remembered that Orlamm, the gnome at The Trader’s Bargain, wanted to meet with them before they went.
- Mira and Vurt proceeded into The Trader’s Bargain, which gave the impression of an abandoned warehouse. They met with Orlamm, the red-haired gnome, and discussed the book he was transcribing, The Twin Sisters, as he struggled to not spill ink. He gave them two Potions of Light Healing for their journey.
- Mira left a note atop a hitching post for the stableboy, securing it with a cobblestone from the ground.
- The party headed west over the bridge on horseback, following north of the river, with the Spine of the World looming in the distance.
- Edward spotted a camp fire to the north, and confirmed it was safe. The party proceeded north, finding a recently extinguished flame, and a pair of saddlebags marked with a copper emblem featuring a mauled iron fist. It contained two waterskins, some dried rations, and a note reading: “This belonged to the men who tried to kill me; I have no further need of it. Take it, or leave it for the next traveler. -O”
- The party arrived outside the entrance to Dol’Dumar’s access shaft, north of a portion of the river that is partially blocked and frothy due to rocks, a broken raft, and other debris. The party spotted a vial floating among the debris, with a note reading, in elegant draconic, “They come at dawn. Prepare your defenses.”
- The party entered the mine, with Vurt grudgingly allowing Mira to light a torch that was found on a nearby sconse.
- The party came upon a large, flooded chamber, with an aging rope bridge spanning its length, and was waylaid by three kobolds. Victorious, but grievously wounded by sling and spear, both characters were forced to quaff their healing potions.
- Vurt methodically mounted each kobold’s severed head (one severely destroyed by a Magic Missile detonating in its mouth) on its own spear.
- Vurt looted a sling and ammunition for his own use.
